2025 AI Convergence Major FAQ

1. Can anyone apply for the convergence major?

Any enrolled student interested in the convergence major can participate. However, since the convergence major is operated primarily for students from participating departments, the list of eligible departments by major will be announced.

2. How is the convergence major different from existing majors?

Existing majors focus on single-department education, but the AI Convergence Major is a practical curriculum combining AI-based technology + industry fields (content, healthcare, big data, system control, aerospace). It is structured around industry-academia projects and practical courses to enhance practical capabilities.

3. What is the difference between convergence major, double major, and minor?

The degree requirements and purposes differ. The AI Convergence Major operates as a "separate system of AI-based convergence curriculum jointly operated by multiple departments," while a double major requires "completing the existing major + another full major," and a minor requires "completing part of another major."

4. Can I maintain my existing major while doing the convergence major?

Yes. You can maintain your existing major and additionally select and complete the convergence major.

5. How many credits do I need to complete?

With "convergence courses + composite courses minimum 9 credits included," 2-3 year students must complete at least 21 credits, and 4-year students must complete at least 36 credits. Detailed credits and completion system by major will be announced after the convergence major curriculum is finalized.

6. How are required and elective courses structured?

Each major operates with a structure of foundation (required) and track-specific advanced (elective) courses, and you must complete at least the minimum credits for the track specified by each major.

7. What if my existing major classes overlap in time?

You can select courses by semester, and if times overlap, you can choose a different track or courses from the next semester. You can consult with the major's responsible professor if needed.

8. What is the ratio of online to offline classes?

It varies by major, and some majors have many practice-centered and field-based classes. The final operation method will be announced after the semester curriculum is finalized.

9. How do I apply?

The AI Convergence Major operates by applying for 'AI Convergence Free Major' in the form of a double major (minor). Apply through the school's integrated system, and applications are available from today (11.24) until December 15.

10. Are there selection criteria?

All interested students can apply without separate selection criteria. However, courses with limited practice capacity may be selected on a first-come, first-served basis or by priority.

11. Can I return to my existing major if I drop out mid-way?

Yes. You can return to your existing major, and credits completed in the convergence major may be recognized as some general education or other major credits.

12. Can I change to another convergence major?

Yes. However, since credit recognition criteria differ by major, you need to confirm with the RISE project team and the academic affairs team before changing.

13. What benefits do I get from completing the AI Convergence Major?

It provides practical experience linked with actual companies and institutions, enhancing employment and entrepreneurship capabilities. You can also receive various benefits such as innovation talent support fund, opportunities to participate in overseas training and field practice, and priority selection (support) for capstone design projects.
