As part of the Cheju Halla University RISE program, drone and AI convergence education was provided, and a drone soccer competition was held, with regional currency awarded to top teams to heighten the on-site excitement.
The Cheju Halla University RISE Center (Director Seok-yong Ko) joined forces with a local high school to cultivate core talent in the drone sector, one of Jeju's future strategic industries. The Core Talent Development Center (Director Young Joon Lee) successfully completed the two-day "Dream High H2O Camp" held with students from Hallim Technical High School from November 25 (Tue) to 26 (Wed).
Planned as part of the Cheju Halla University RISE program, this camp focused on helping students develop practical understanding and applied skills in drone and AI technology. The aim is to connect the university's specialized educational infrastructure with the high school curriculum to cultivate locally-tailored talent.
Reflecting the latest technology trends from AI coding to drone flight, this camp was composed of diverse programs including AI coding, data utilization training, and basic drone flight.
Students strengthened foundational competencies in AI and data — the core of Fourth Industrial Revolution technology — while also traveling to Namwon Community Gymnasium to experience hands-on drone piloting.
Expert instructors from the Jeju Drone Industry Association participated, providing step-by-step close instruction from safety training through basic flight to mission execution, enhancing the quality of education.
The undisputed highlight of the camp was the Drone Soccer Competition. As students formed teams and piloted drones to score goals, they naturally developed precision control skills and strengthened teamwork.
Top teams were awarded regional currency (local vouchers), adding to the excitement on the day. Through this competition, students were able to develop not only drone piloting skills but also cooperative spirit and competitive drive.
Students who participated in the camp unanimously said that through this program, they were able to "learn drone technology that is rarely accessible in a fun and engaging way."

"I was able to learn drone technology that is rarely accessible in a fun way. The AI coding-linked hands-on practice gave me a concrete opportunity to think more specifically about my career, which had felt vague before."
Director Young Joon Lee, Cheju Halla University Core Talent Development Center, remarked that "this camp was a valuable opportunity for local youth to develop the practical skills needed in future industry settings."
"We will continue to expand practical education programs aligned with industry demand, laying the groundwork for talented individuals to settle and grow within the Jeju community."
